Has it really been five years since Fortnite introduced its battle royale mode? It may be hard to believe, but yes–while it may seem like only a moment has passed, it really has been half a decade of enjoyment already. As such, Epic has decided to throw a 5th Birthday Celebration filled with fun activities, special quests, and even some birthday cake to eat! We’ve got everything you need to know about the festivities here.
5th Birthday Celebration start and end times
The 5th Birthday Celebration will begin on September 23 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET and will run until September 27 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.
Birthday presents, birthday cake, and balloons
Not only has the battle bus received a birthday makeover during the celebration, but you’ll also be able to score some cool stuff on the ground, too. When exploring the map, you can find Birthday Present that you can open to receive high-tier loot and some birthday cake, which you can eat to restore your health.
Meanwhile, Balloons are making a comeback during the 5th Birthday Celebration, too. These fan-favorite items are a joy to use and allow you to jump higher and fall slower, and they eliminate fall damage while inflated. You can inflate up to three at one time, which will then cause you to float upwards until you let go or get shot out of the sky. Just be sure no enemy team pops you out of the sky like a carnival game.
Birthday Quests for Birthday Bling
You’ve got some quests to complete during the birthday celebration. Doing so will earn you three unique cosmetic items, which we’ve listed below.
- Fuzzfetti Cake Back Bling
- Celebratory Slice Pickaxe
- Sparklecake Emoticon
In addition to all of the new stuff to check out, you can also engage in some fortography. During the celebration, Epic is hoping players will celebrate birthdays–either Fortnite’s or their own–by taking birthday-themed photos in the game.
If you want to be a part of the fun, post your celebratory photos to Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook using the hashtag #FNBR5 or by posting to r/FortniteBR with the Fortography flair. The team at Epic will be highlighting some of their favorite screenshots in a blog post on October 7, so maybe you’ll see your good time on display!
Lastly, Epic is holding some Fortnite trivia on its Twitter and Instagram accounts during the celebration. If you think of yourself as an encyclopedia of Fortnite knowledge, go test that theory against a variety of questions that cover the entirety of the game’s history.
